5Worth the money and very effective
By J. Riquelme
OK, so you are new to boating and want to stick with a familiar name when it come to boat care products that you seem to trust when maintaining your cars. Well this will not only satisfy your comfort-food needs, but will do the job nicely. It's pricey, but what cleaning product for boating isn't, or anything for boats for that matter? I bought this after much research and price comparison. I reviewed inputs on Amazon from users, I also checked out other e-tailers' pages and their reviews. I even read all the marketing pitches from a dozen or so vendors. And this I did not only for Meguiars, but its competitors products as well. I finally settled on this one as my choice.

I am using this on a 1999 24' Sea Ray fixer upper that has seen better days. The craft has sat in saltwater its full life up until 2006. During those 7 years, the previous owner never waxed the boat. So as you can imagine, lava rocks had a better shine than this poor neglected craft. I applied it with a 7 inch wool cutting bonnet using a polisher at 2600 RPMs. The years came off right before my eyes. The bottle's applicator allowed me to meter the exact amount of product to apply so I can control the rate of oxidation removal and not go deeper than needed. The boat's before and after shot would make a marketer proud. It was inconceivable that I would get a mirror finish again, but this compound restored it to showroom. The compound removed saltwater eroded topcoat, oxidation tears from snaps and embedded grime in the clear coat.

So far, for a heavily oxidized hull and upper deck, I have used only 1/2 of the bottle. I predicted to buy a second bottle to finish, but the product does cut well without having to glob it on.

Pros:
Effectiveness
Easy to follow instructions for the novice
Familiar name
Good bottle design

Con's:
Pricey
Not easily found locally

5Amazed with the results
By BojiBlue
I have always used a three step process when putting my boat away for the winter. A rubbing compound, polish and wax. In an effort to eliminate a step I tried McGuiar's one-step compound. I am very happy with the results. My boat had light-medium oxidation in the black parts of the jel coat. The compound removed all the oxidation and left the gel coat smooth and very bright. Hit is with a coat of McGuiar's premium marine wax and I could read the sunday paper in the reflection.

5Meguiars one-step marine compound

Worked well on my 5th wheel gelcoat siding. I did it by hand and it still worked well. I used a good wax after and time will tell how long the restored shine will last
